I was born in the Old Swan area of Liverpool and went to secondary school in the same area. After qualifying as a teacher I taught for three years and then went to Sicily to teach English.
It was during these ten years abroad that I experienced the Sicilian Mafia wars; corrupt politicians, contract killings, protection rackets, vast sums of money made in the illegal drugs trade and prostitution.
When I returned to Liverpool I taught in Toxteth for twelve years and eventually became a LibDem councillor for ten years. It was during this time that I got to observe the rise to power of Joe Anderson, from ‘backbencher’ to Leader of the Labour Party in Liverpool. Anderson went on to become Leader of the Council and then, in 2012, the City Mayor.
Fast forward to 2017 and Ged Fitzgerald, Chief Exec. at LCC was arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and witness intimidation. Two other ex-senior officers were also arrested at the same time.
Fast forward again to December 2020 and Joe Anderson was arrested with four other men in relation to police investigation/s. They were released on conditional bail.
Since then there has been the utterly damning report by Max Caller into the running of Liverpool City Council, followed by the government bringing Commissioners into the city to help address the mass of LCC ‘problems’ that have cost the citizens of Liverpool tens of millions of pounds.
Joe Anderson has had significant media space to give his fantasy side of the ‘story’. Unfortunately, many of these so-called journalists were amateur ’podcasters’ who were completely unprepared and permitted Anderson to rant on for hours without EVER challenging any of his statements.
However, let’s not forget the amazing efforts of a group of people who have been investigating Joe & Co for years and uncovering the truth… they are heroes.
